I’d Like to contribute to FA50 — how do I do it?
We encourage everyone who reads FA50 to contribute? There are two ways to chime in:
- Write a full-length “Post” for the first page — a short article of 500-750 words (on rare occasions, we’ll publish bigger Posts). Simply attach a Word .doc file or an .RTF file to an email; send it to post@fictionafter50.com. Alternately, “paste” the words directly into an email. One of the moderators will get back to you promptly.
- Add a “Reply” to an existing Post. This is the fastest — and easiest — way to voice your opinion about the Post, or to add a fresh thought, insight, or item of useful information.
Does FA50 has subject matter guidelines?
Ideally, all the content on FA50 will help novelists of a certain age write and publish fiction. But that broad category clearly includes most general content about fiction writing. Keep in mind what the late Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart famously wrote about about defining obscenity: “I know it when I see it.” Well, that’s how the moderators feel about inappropriate content for FA50. We’ll also know it when we see it.
Are there any rules?
The moderators want FA50 to have the usual rules of a friendly blog:
- We assume that participants will play well together (i.e. no fighting, no flaming, no insults, no shouting, no cuss words, no defamation)
- Please don’t post copyrighted materials that you don’t own
- Please don’t post phone numbers or other private information.
- A bit of blatant self promotion (BSP) is okay (we all know that novelists have to market their books these days), but please don’t post outright advertisements for books or services
Who are these Moderators you keep mentioning?
Ron and Janet Benrey, the moderators of Fiction After 50 (excuse the brief detour to third-person), are late-blooming authors who were both 50+ when they sold their first novel: Little White Lies, a romantic mystery. More than a decade later, they hope that Fiction After 50 will turbo-charge the novelizing of writers who read the posts and contribute comments and content.
